Curriculum

Carolina Leadership Academy uses a combination of Abeka and customized curriculum geared toward activity and project-based learning.

Abeka

A proven spiral learning approach that helps kids retain more of what they learn. Subjects include History/Social Studies, Science, Math, and Language Arts.

Project-Based Learning

Students engage in project-based learning driven by interests in correlation to content taught. Activities and Projects may include areas such as play, environmental inquiry, web-based application, STEM/STEAM, Arts (music, drama, visual arts), Creative Writing, Architecture/Design, Culinary Arts and Fashion Design

Blended Learning and Flex-Space

Station rotation is implemented for students to move through the classroom and day in an organized, but creative, manner. This allows the student to utilize both right and left brain which leads to ultimate learning and retention of information. Stations include arts and crafts, Legos and other building block materials, technology, and group projects.

Online coursework

Online coursework will occur during the school day during station-rotation. There may be times when students will need to complete coursework while at home to catch up or remediate.

Career and Technical Education

Students will be introduced to various careers and technical professions through modular concepts based on STEM/STEAM, health occupations, hospitality and food service, construction and other technical trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, auto-body repair), and IT professions including cybersecurity and AR/AI.

Leadership and Entrepreneurship

As students are encouraged to take on leadership roles, they are provided opportunities both in and out of the classroom to take on responsibilities to enhance these skills.  Opportunities are also provided for students to build a mindset of philanthropy and self-reliance through entrepreneurship.

Citizenship and Character Development

Through character development, students will build skills that facilitate and encourage community partnership and citizenship.

Financial Literacy

Students will be immersed in real life day-to-day financial responsibilities through mock banking accounts. Topics covered include money management, debit and credit, investing, applying for loans, and interest rates.

Community Engagement

In an effort to instill a sense of pride, philanthropy, and leadership in the community, students are encouraged to engage in volunteer activities such as filling backpacks for local children, mentoring other students, Special Olympics, and assisting older adults in the community.
